European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has extended her congratulations to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her fourth consecutive term in office.
Expressing her good wishes, von der Leyen had affirmed her anticipation to further collaborate with Sheikh Hasina in enhancing relations between the European Union and Bangladesh in the years ahead, the foreign ministry said.
The European Union was committed to cooperating with Bangladesh on sustainable development, climate change, migration and other interests, she noted.
In the letter, von der Leyen fondly recalled her meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Global Gateway Forum in Brussels last year, saying: “It also marked the formal start of negotiations for a new Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, aimed at further broadening and modernizing our partnership framework.”
She said the European Union would work with Bangladesh to uphold and advance democracy, human rights and the rule of law within the framework of a long-term partnership.
The letter was sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on February 19 from the European Union delegation office in Dhaka.
