Bangladesh to export mangoes to China

Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said that Bangladesh would export mangoes to China.

"Mango export can be started in July or August," he told reporters after his meeting with Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen.

During the meeting, the minister brought up the issue of the trade gap with China.

The ambassador informed him that they would start taking mangoes, jute, meat and fish from Bangladesh.

“China is a big and friendly market for Bangladesh. I have discussed how to send products tariff-free,” he said.

The issue of Rohingya repatriation was also discussed, he said.

The volume of two-way trade is now worth $21 billion with China's export accounting for nearly $19 billion.

The two countries are in talks to have a free trade agreement (FTA).
