UN Resident Co-ordinator in Dhaka Gwyn Lewis has said that there is no movement across the Bangladesh, Myanmar border following the conflicts in the Rakhine state.
"So, there is no request," she said while replying to a question on whether she asked Bangladesh to give shelter to Rohingyas amid the ongoing conflicts in the Rakhine state in which Rohingyas were also killed.
The UN Dhaka chief met Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday. This was her first meeting with the new foreign minister.
Bangladesh earlier gave shelter to over 1.1 million Rohingyas who fled ethnic cleansing.
Gwyn Lewis said she had discussed about the development issues, particularly climate change, Bangladesh's graduation from the LDC and the Rohingya response.
She said it is not a good time for Rohingya repatriation.
Asked whether the UN is working to have that good time for Rohingyas to return, she said it is a political issue between the countries, and at the UN level, the secretary general is engaged systematically.
