US condemns violence in Dhaka, reminds visa policy

The US government has condemned the political violence in Dhaka on Saturday following clashes between police and the opposition BNP and reminded all about their visa restriction policy.

“The United States condemns the political violence that took place in Dhaka on October 28. The reported killing of a police officer, a political activist, and the burning of a hospital are unacceptable. It is violence against civilians, including journalists. We call for calm and restraint on all sides. We will be reviewing all violent incidents for possible visa restrictions,” the embassy said in a statement.

US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu also made a similar statement sent to Voice of America Bangla service, the portal reports.

The US, earlier, announced visa restriction policy to those who would stand in the way of holding a free and fair election in Bangladesh as scheduled in January.
