Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin will be in Indonesia from September 5-7 to attend the 43rd Asean Summit to be held in Jakarta.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen in a briefing on Thursday said Indonesian President Joko Widodo had invited his Bangladeshi counterpart to the summit.
Two memorandums of understanding (MoU) on energy and health could be signed during the visit, said the minister.
The president will also attend the 18th East Asia Summit on the sidelines of the Asean one.
"Asean Matters: Epicentrum of Growth" is the theme of the 43rd Asean Summit.
Ten countries of Southeast Asia are members of Asean. Bangladesh wants to be a sectoral dialogue partner of the Asean.
The president will make closing remarks at the 18th East Asian summit on “Strengthening Regional Architecture to Support the Epicentrum of Growth from the Perspective of IORA” as a “guest of the chair”.
On the sidelines, there will be a bilateral meeting between the presidents of Bangladesh and Indonesia.
This will be the first visit of the president to Indonesia.
Bangladesh is the current president of the Indian Ocean Rim Association or IORA.
During the visit, the IORA and Pacific Island Forums will sign a MoU
The foreign minister, who will accompany the president, will witness the signing.
The minister said the president will highlight the Rohingya issue, among others, in his speeches and meetings.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s daughter Saima Wazed will also accompany the president as a mental health expert of the World Health Organization.
