Bangladesh changes envoys in Portugal, Lebanon, Uzbekistan

The government in a diplomatic reshuffle has changed the ambassadors in Portugal, Lebanon and Uzbekistan.

Rezina Ahmed would be the next ambassador of Bangladesh to Portugal while Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanveer Khan would go to Lebanon, and Mohammad Monirul Islam to Uzbekistan, the foreign ministry said.

Portugal

Rezina Ahmed, a career diplomat of the 13th batch of BCS (Foreign Affairs) cadre, joined Foreign Service in 1994.

She will be replacing Ambassador Tarik Ahsan in Portugal.

Currently, she is serving as the high commissioner of Bangladesh to Mauritius.

In her career, she has served in such Bangladesh Missions as Canberra, Moscow and Yangon in different capacities.

She was also the Consul General of Bangladesh in Milan.

At headquarters as well, she has held many important positions including that of the deputy chief of protocol.

Rezina Ahmed obtained her BSS and MSS degree in International Relations from the University of Dhaka.

She also completed several professional training courses both at home and abroad, and represented Bangladesh in numerous bilateral and multilateral meetings.

Uzbekistan

The government has decided to appoint Dr Mohammad Monirul Islam as the next ambassador of Bangladesh to Uzbekistan.

He will replace Ambassador Md Zahangir Alam in this capacity.

A career diplomat, Dr Mohammad Monirul Islam belongs to the 20th batch of BCS (Foreign Affairs) Cadre.

Joining the Foreign Service in 2001, he is now serving as the consul general of Bangladesh in New York.

Before that, he was serving as the consul general of Bangladesh in Istanbul.

In his diplomatic career, he also served in various capacities in Bangladesh missions in Tokyo and New Delhi.

At headquarters, he held some important positions including the director general of the Multilateral Economic Affairs Wing. 

Born in Dhaka, Dr Islam did his bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (B-Pharm) from the University of Dhaka with a distinction of First Class First.

He completed Master’s in the same discipline (M-Pharm) from the same institution securing First class first position.

He also obtained a master’s in political science and obtained a Phd in International Relations from India.    

Lebanon

The government has decided to appoint Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanveer Khan as the next ambassador of Bangladesh to Lebanon.

He will replace Major General Md Jahangir Al Mustahidur Rahman in this capacity.  

An officer of Bangladesh Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanveer Khan was commissioned in January 1990.

In his military career, he has served in various staff, instructional and command postings.

Just before being deputed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was serving as air officer commanding at BAF Matiur Rahman in Jessore.

He has also served as the air officer commanding at BAF Paharkanchanpur in Tangail.

Other senior positions he held in his career include air secretary at Air Headquarters, director general (training) at Armed Forces Division and officer commanding at Air Defence Operations Centre.

He was the commandant of Bangladesh Air Force Academy.

Air Vice Marshal Tanveer had his BSc in Aeronautics from Rajshahi University. He did two Masters in Defence and Security Studies from DSCSC and Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) respectively.

He did another Masters in Operational Science and Arts from Air University (ACSC), US. He has also taken part in a number of professional training courses both at home and abroad.
