Chinese embassy sends off scholarship recipients

The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh on Monday hosted a farewell reception for the Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) recipients.

Yao Wen, ambassador of China to Bangladesh, Toufique Hasan, director-general of the East Asia and Pacific Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh and Munshi Faiz Ahmed, former ambassador of Bangladesh to China and chief of Association of Bangladesh-China Alumni (ABCA) granted CGS admission letters to Bangladeshi scholarship recipients, the embassy said in a statement.

Representatives from ABCA and the parents of the students attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Yao Wen said in his speech that both China and Bangladesh have a long history and splendid culture, and have been good neighbors and friends since ancient times.

He said: "On the eve of the International Children’s Day this year, Chinese President Xi Jinping wrote back to Bangladeshi child Alifa Chin, encouraging her to study hard, pursue her dream, contribute to the society and serve the country.

"President Xi Jinping’s earnest wish is a message to all Bangladeshi youths and to the bright future of China-Bangladesh relations."

The ambassador encouraged the students "to cherish the present and study hard”.

"They should not only learn the professional courses, but also Chinese history and culture. They should not only go attending lectures, but also exploring the streets and making more Chinese friends," he said.

"The young students are the “Bridge of Hope” to carry forward the tradition of friendship between the two countries and make their own efforts to the bright future of Bangladesh and China-Bangladesh relations," Yao Wen added.
