Environment Minister Md Shahab Uddin has called for active support from developed nations in implementing the National Adaptation Plan of Bangladesh 2023-2050 to address the adverse impacts of climate change.
He spoke at the G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Ministerial Meeting on Friday in Chennai, India.
Shahab Uddin emphasized the urgent need for the operationalization of new funding arrangements for loss and damage, particularly for vulnerable countries like Bangladesh.
He urged developed countries to take the lead in reducing the vulnerabilities faced by millions living in developing nations.
The minister said: “The world must prioritize sustainable water management for food security, promoting circular economy and reducing single-use plastics to tackle marine litter collectively."
The environment minister proposed cross-border cooperation to reduce marine litter, emphasizing the need for mechanisms to trace and limit plastics in rivers, safeguarding oceans and marine ecosystems.
