Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin has said Bangladesh earnestly seeks the United Arab Emirates's support in securing funding for loss and damage, particularly for the LDCs.
“It is important to note that the source of funding for addressing loss and damage has not been decided yet, and it is crucial that this matter is finalized at COP28, including full operationalization of the fund,” the minister said in a meeting on Thursday with Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the UAE's minister of industry and advanced technology and special envoy for climate change as well as the president-designate for the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28).
Shahab Uddin said Bangladesh also wanted the UAE's support to fund the implementation of National Adaptation Plans (NAP) in climate-vulnerable developing countries.
“These plans serve as critical roadmaps to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change, build climate resilience, and protect vulnerable sectors and communities. It is time to make a decision to allocate dedicated resources for NAP implementation at COP28.”
