Shahriar: Govt will invite Argentina to bring World Cup trophy to Bangladesh

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam has said that a proposal will be made to the Argentine government to bring the World Cup trophy to Bangladesh soon.

The state minister revealed the information while talking to reporters at an event in Rajshahi on Wednesday.

He said: "We have already heard Bangladeshi fans demand to bring Argentina's World Cup trophy. Argentine players are very busy right now. So even if the players can't, we would offer to send the trophy to Bangladesh with a representative. We will soon make the proposal.”

In response to a question, the state minister said: "There are many supporters of different teams in our country. But after Argentina's triumph in the World Cup final, it seems the South American nation has the biggest fan base here.”

He said: "Argentina is overwhelmed by the craze of Bangladeshi fans towards Argentine football team. They have also decided to open an embassy in Bangladesh. Maybe the work will start very soon.''

Following Argentina's triumph over France to lift the World Cup trophy in Qatar, Bangladeshi football fans chanted "Messi, Messi," shedding tears of joy and dancing in the streets to celebrate the win.

Hundreds of thousands of people defied chilly temperatures to watch the match on giant screens set up in the capital Dhaka's key squares, roads and football grounds.

Many wore Argentina's sky blue and white national colors and sported Lionel Messi's iconic No 10 jersey.

The mad following of Bangladeshi fans is a hot topic among the media all over the world. 

In return, there has been acknowledgement and appreciation from Argentina towards Bangladesh and its passionate football fans.

The mutual admiration and respect shared between Argentina and Bangladesh has created a beautiful friendship.
