Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero has said that the South American nation is planning to open its embassy in Bangladesh.
“Argentina will promote the project to reopen the Embassy in Bangladesh, closed since 1978,” Santiago Cafiero disclosed the information in a tweet on Saturday.
“In August I had a meeting with my peer, Abul Kalam Abdul Momen, at the 10th Review Conference of the United Nations Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons,” Cafiero stated.
The Argentine foreign minister says the country was planning to reopen the embassy to improve the bilateral relationship and diversify trade between the two countries.

In another tweet, he said Argentina's exports to Bangladesh totaled $876 million during 2021, an all-time high. “The main products exported are soybean oil, flour and pellets from the extraction of soybean oil, corn and wheat, which account for 99% of shipments,” he said.
The planning to reopen the embassy was most likely encouraged by a large number of Bangladeshi support of Argentina football team.
During the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar, thousands of Bangladeshi supporters showed their support to the latin nation and heaped praise on their star player Lionel Messi.
The unbelievable support drew attention of the Argentine fans as they showed their appreciation by cheering for the Bangladesh cricket team.
