Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's Bangladesh visit has been cancelled.
A foreign ministry source confirmed the matter on Sunday, according to media reports.
Sergei Lavrov is likely to have a telephone conversation with his Bangladesh counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen on Monday or the day after.
The reason behind the change in plans could not be known immediately.
Lavrov was scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Wednesday to attend a minister-level meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Aleksandr Mantytsky will represent his country at the IORA meeting instead of the foreign minister.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will brief the media on the IORA meeting on Monday.
Earlier, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen invited his Lavrov to attend the 22nd IORA Council of Ministers (COM) meeting to be held in Dhaka on Thursday.
Sergei Lavrov was also likely to meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina apart from his bilateral meeting with Momen.
Momen met his Russian counterpart last month in Astana, Kazakhstan, on the sidelines of the CICA Summit and apprised him of the Rohingya situation.
