Govt cancels appointment of Bangladesh ambassador to US

The government has cancelled the contractual appointment of Md Shahidul Islam, the ambassador of Bangladesh to the United States.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification in this regard on Thursday.

It is said in the notification, in view of the application of Md Shahidul Islam, a retired officer of BCS foreign cadre, the contractual appointment made by the government with him has been terminated from September 1.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on July 13 that it has been decided to appoint Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Muhammad Imran as the next ambassador to the USA.

Md Shahidul Islam was a career foreign service officer belonging to the 1985 batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service foreign affairs cadre.

It was a contractual appointment as he went on retirement from regular Foreign Service in June 2020.

He, earlier, served as ambassador of Bangladesh to South Korea and France.
