Expats can again submit passports directly to Saudi embassy

Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (Baira) has decided to again start submitting passports directly to the Saudi embassy from Monday.

On Saturday, the organization announced that it will stop submitting passports at the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Dhaka in protest against its decision to process passports, visas of expatriates through a third party.

However, following a meeting with the embassy on Monday, the organization decided to move out of the decision, said Baira President Md Abul Basar.

He said: “We had a meeting with the Saudi ambassador today (Sunday). He said that they will not take passports through the Shapla Centre. Like before, we will submit directly to the embassy.”

Recruiting agencies said earlier that the Saudi embassy had appointed a private organization called Shapla Centre in Dhaka. The embassy informed all agents by letter of the decision to submit passports from Saturday through that institution.

On October 12, Baira's executive committee decided in an emergency meeting that passports will not be submitted through the company appointed by the Saudi embassy. On Saturday, the decision was finalized after consulting with all its members.
