Bangladesh has started wheat imports from India again after 16 days.
As part of this, 600 tonnes of wheat were imported from India using Akhaura land port on Wednesday and Thursday, reports Bangla Tribune.
According to sources, about 300 tonnes of wheat were imported from India in 11 trucks on Wednesday while another 300 tons of wheat arrived in another 16 trucks till 2:30pm on Thursday.
A total of 45 trucks will bring 1,000 tonnes of wheat from India using the Akhaura land port.
The import of wheat started through this port for the first time on August 2 last year.
Then in the first shipment, 1,320 tons of wheat came to the country in 67 trucks. Later in May this year, another 150,000 tons of wheat reached the port.
A company named Agrovet Limited of Bangladesh entered into an agreement with India's International Private Limited to import 2,500 tons of wheat.
Wheat is being imported at $370 per tonne. M/s Khalifa Enterprise is doing customs clearing of the wheat imported through Akhaura land port.
No shipment of wheat has entered the country through Akhaura land port since May 30 after the Indian government banned the export of wheat.
Due to this, more than 14,000 tonnes of wheat, which had opened import letters of credit (LC) before the ban, got stuck.
Although India later lifted the ban, road and rail connectivity between Agartala and Tripura state was cut due to heavy rains and floods in various states of the country.
The wheat trucks then could not reach Agartala.
