Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi today paid homage to Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib on the occasion of her 92nd birth anniversary.
Bangamata Fazilatun Nessa Mujib was assassinated along with Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most members of her family on the brutal night of August 15 in 1975.
The high commission held discussion and placed wreaths at her portraits at Bangabandhu Corner at the chancery building, said a press release received here this evening.
High Commissioner Muhammad Imran led the officers and staff of the mission in laying the wreaths in the morning. He also presided over the discussion meeting on the life of Bangamata Fazilatunnessa Mujib at the chancery's Bangabandhu conference hall.
In his speech, Muhammad Imran said Bangamata played a pivotal role in helping him take crucial political decisions in different stages of Bangabandhu's life.
He said Bangamata was a majestic struggling woman who also played an important role in Bangabandhu's political struggle. In her personal life, she was very simple Bengali woman, he added.
Deputy High Commissioner Md Nural Islam and Assistant Defence Advisor Wing Commander S M Ragib Samad read out the messages of President Abdul Hamid and the prime minister.
Minister (Economic) Mohammad Rashedul Amin also spoke on the occasion while counsellor Shahed Bin Aziz Ahmed conducted the event.
A documentary on the life of Bangamata and a film "A Daughter's Tale" were also screened. The programme was followed by a dinner which was attended by diplomats, high government officials, elites, journalists, academics and friends of Bangladesh.
A Special Munajat was offered seeking divine blessing for Bangamata, Bangabandhu and her family members.
