Bangladesh reiterates firm adherence to one-China principle

Bangladesh reiterates firm adherence to “One China” principle, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

In a Facebook post on its official page, the ministry said: “Bangladesh is closely following the developments in Taiwan Strait and urges all parties concerned to exercise utmost restraint and refrain from any actions that may aggravate tensions and undermine peace and stability in the region and beyond.”

The ministry called on all parties involved to resolve their differences in accordance with the UN Charter and through dialogue.

US-China tensions reached its peak on Tuesday, when US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi landed in Taiwan, a self-ruled island that China considers its territory.

A fuming Beijing announced military drills in the sees around the island during Pelosi’s visit.

On Thursday, Taipei’s defence ministry said that Chinese forces fired multiple ballistic missiles into waters around Taiwan during the military drills.
