Minister: Expats need to spend Tk79,000 to go to Malaysia

The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment has fixed the cost of workers planning to go to Malaysia.

Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Imran Ahmad said a worker will have to spend Tk79,000, reports Bangla Tribune on Wednesday citing.

Imran Ahmad said: “We have been trying for a long time, but things are not in our control which results the delay. We are starting the process step by step. Bangladeshi workers will need Tk79,000 to go to Malaysia from now on.”

The minister urged concerned everyone to maintain the rate. Otherwise, they will be depreciated, he warned.

However, the meeting on July 13 will have a final discussion on the process of sending workers to Malaysia, he added.

Earlier on December 19, 2021, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur on Sunday to send Bangladeshi workers to Malaysia.

According to the agreement, the employer will bear most of the cost of the worker while few costs in Bangladesh, determined by the ministry, will have to be borne by himself.

Under the Memorandum of understanding (MoU), the recruitment agency will bear all costs of Bangladeshi workers, including the recruitment process, accommodation, employment, and sending workers to Malaysia. Employers can hire Malaysian recruiting agents at their own cost.

Besides, employers will have to bear the immigration fees, visa fees, medical expenses, insurance expenses and quarantine expenses of the workers.
