A Bangladeshi youth, who had long been struck in a detention center in war-torn Ukraine, has safely reached Poland.
On Saturday, the Bangladesh Mission in Poland rescued Riadul Malik, 20. He later reached Poland on Monday, his father Abdul Malik Shaista told Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
Hailing from Sylhet’s Fenchuganj, Riadul went to Ukraine four years ago. He had been living at a migrant detention camp and remained stuck there since the Russian invasion started in February.

At one point, Ukraine soldiers took control of the camp after which he was unable to communicate with his family.
Later, a video of Riadul, complaining of torture and pleading to be rescued, went viral and it was covered by both local and international media.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Poland took the initiative to rescue him at the directive of the Foreign Ministry.
