DSCC, Bucharest sign agreement to become 'sister cities'

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and the third district of Bucharest, Romania, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to become “sister cities” aiming at establishing a Friendship City Relationship.

DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Third District Mayor of Bucharest Robert Sorin Negoita signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides at Mayor Mohammad Hanif Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday, said a press release.

Through the MoU, a new horizon has been opened for both countries to develop the tourism industry of both countries, increase trade, exchange culture, reduce traffic congestion, develop modern waste management and exchange technical information and technology.

While addressing, DSCC Mayor Taposh said: "We have Lalbagh fort, Ahsan Manzil, Tara Masjid, Central Shaheed Minar and many other installations that can play a significant role in attracting tourists. I believe that the MoU will bring life to the tourism industry of the country."

Robert Sorin Negoita said this agreement would create opportunities for employment, trade and tourism for both the cities. “This agreement will play a significant contribution to the development of mutual relations between two cities,” he added.

DSCC Chief Executive Officer Farid Ahmad, Chief Waste Management Officer Sitwat Nayeem, DSCC Secretary Akramuzzaman, Bucharest police Deputy Director Victor Neagu, Bucharest City Manager Marius Daniel Ciobica, President of Romania-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Mohammad Rafiqul islam, among others, were present on the occasion.
