Romania has expressed keen interest to import skilled and unskilled workers, including cleaners, from Bangladesh.
The proposal came during a meeting between a Romanian delegation led by Bucharest city Mayor Robert-Sorin Negoita and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh at the latter's office Sunday afternoon.
The DSCC delegation included its Chief Executive Officer Farid Ahmed, Chief Waste Management Officer Sitwat Nayeem and Chief Engineer Saleh Ahmed.
On the other hand, the Romanian delegation comprised Deputy Mayor of Bucharest Police Victor Neagu, Bucharest City Manager Marius-Daniel Ciobica and Romania-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce President Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, among others.
"There is a demand for Bangladeshi cleaners in Romania and the demand will be met from Bangladesh," said Mayor Robert-Sorin Negoita at the meeting.
The DSCC mayor thanked the Bucharest mayor for the interest and assured him of providing necessary cooperation in this regard.
Prior to the meeting, the visiting mayor and his entourage paid tribute to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu museum.
Later, the Romanian mayor visited different rooms of the museum and wrote remarks on the visiting book showing respect to the memory of Bangabandhu.
The Bucharest mayor came to Bangladesh on a five-day visit following an invitation from the DSCC mayor. He will return to Romania on March 17.
