India will provide Bangladesh with 30 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines as soon as it receives those, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured his Bangladeshi counterpart, Sheikh Hasina, during the first-ever virtual summit between the two heads of the government on Thursday.
“India has cooperated with us in relation to Covid-19. The prime minister [Sheikh Hasina] raised the issue of vaccines,” Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen told a press conference after the summit at the State Guesthouse Padma.
“The Indian prime minister assured us that when the vaccines arrive, they will give us 30 million doses,” he said.
“And, we [the government] will provide those vaccines to our people free of cost,” added the foreign minister.
Private entities of the country are establishing contacts with their Indian counterparts in this regard, he revealed.
When asked about the price of the vaccine, Dr Momen said: “I don’t know. Maybe the Health Ministry knows.”
“We hope to get the vaccines at a friendship price,” he added.
