PM Hasina phones Mamata, enquires about Amphan damages

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have spoken to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over phone to enquire about the damages caused by extremely severe cyclone Amphan, which made landfall on Wednesday.

“The prime minister phoned the West Bengal chief minister at about 11:10am and enquired about the damages caused by the cyclone in the state,” PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS.

He said the prime minister expressed sympathy to Mamata Banerjee over the loss of life and property due to the cyclone, and hoped they would overcome the losses very soon.

The West Bengal chief minister thanked the Bangladesh prime minister for expressing sympathy.

Cyclone Amphan made landfall on the coast of West Bengal in India on Wednesday afternoon, before moving to Bangladesh at around 4pm.

The cyclone lasted for hours and caused heavy damages in India as well as Bangladesh.
