Javed Patwary named envoy to Saudi Arabia

The government has appointed outgoing Inspector General of Police Mohammad Javed Patwary as the Bangladesh Ambassador to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Public Administration Ministry in a notification said on Monday said he was appointed on a contract of three years.

It said the appointment will be effective on April 15 or date of his joining as the current Dhaka envoy to the kingdom, Jatiya Party leader Golam Moshi, is set to retire this month.

A Dhaka University-graduate, Javed hails from Chandpur.

An intake of the sixth batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service, he joined the Bangladesh Police as an assistant superintendent in 1986.

Hailing from Chandpur, Javed completed his MA from Dhaka University before joining the police service through the sixth Bangladesh Civil Service exam.

Prior to his appointment as the IGP, Javed headed the Special Branch of the police.

He played an important role in collecting information for “Karagarer Rojnamcha” - a book chronicling Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s time behind bars.

After getting the charge of Special Branch, Javed took initiatives to preserve thousands of classified reports on Bangabandhu from 1948 to 1971 kept at the branch’s archive.
