India's newly appointed External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said he is committed to bringing the India-Bangladesh partnership to the level set by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after the end of the Liberation War.
In a letter to Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on June 4, Jaishankar said the relationship between the close neighbours has become deeper due to the far-sighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a press release by the Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
The Indian external affairs minister said the recent victories of Awami League and Indian National Democratic Alliance in their respective parliamentary elections – with huge mandates – show that the people of both countries are in favour of a Bangladesh-India partnership, reports BSS.
Jaishankar also expressed his keen interest to visit Bangladesh soon.
