PM seeks more Danish, Norwegian investments

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought more Danish and Norwegian investments in various sectors for further development of Bangladesh.

The prime minister made the request when Danish Ambassador Winnie Estrup Petersen and Norwegian Ambassador Sidsel Bleken jointly called on her at her office on Tuesday.

PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

Hasina highlighted that her government is setting up 100 special economic zones for more industrialization and employment generation in the country.

She said: “We also want to expand our export basket further through it.”

The prime minister also said that her government is concentrating on rural-based development to change the lot of the grassroots people.

She said: “The development of the country will be from the grassroots.”

The prime minister remarked that her government has ensured participation of women in all spheres.

Regarding women's empowerment, she mentioned that the country’s women are now in high positions in sectors like administration, judiciary, education, sports, the armed forces, and law-enforcement agencies.

The Danish and Norwegian ambassadors offered their countries’ cooperation in Bangladesh’s energy and ICT sectors during the meeting.

They highly appreciated Bangladesh’s stunning socioeconomic development, particularly women's empowerment, under the dynamic leadership of Sheikh Hasina.

The ambassadors also lauded the government's drive against corruption.

At the outset of the meeting, the two envoys handed over two letters from the Danish and Norwegian prime ministers congratulating Sheikh Hasina on her assumption of office as PM for the fourth time.

PM’s Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman and PMO Secretary Sajjadul Hassan were also present at the meeting.
