New US envoy: Washington wants stronger ties with Dhaka

Newly appointed US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller has emphasized that a strong Bangladesh-US relationship is in the interest of Bangladeshis and Americans, as well as the regional and global community.

He made the remark after presenting his credentials to President Abdul Hamid at a ceremony in Bangabhaban on Thursday afternoon, reports UNB. 

The US ambassador arrived in Bangladesh on November 18, according to a press release by the US Embassy in Dhaka.

He was confirmed as US ambassador to Bangladesh by the US Senate on October 11, 2018.

A career member of the US Senior Foreign Service, Miller joined the Department of State in 1987.

He previously served as the US ambassador to the Republic of Botswana in 2014-2018, and acted as the consul general at the US Consulate General in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 2011 to 2014.

He also served in US embassies in El Salvador, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iraq, and India.
