Hasina to visit India in mid-April

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s much-awaited state visit to India is scheduled for early April, after being postponed twice. The information was conveyed to visiting Indian Secretary of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Thursday, reports UNB. Jaishankar paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her National Parliament office Thursday afternoon. The PM's Deputy Press Secretary M Nazrul Islam said the reciprocal visit of Sheikh Hasina will take place in the first half of April. Jaishankar arrived Thursday on a two-day tour to finalise the details of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India and brief her about the preparations, sources said. State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, PM's Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsha Bardhan Shringla were present on the occasion. Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi last met in Goa on October 16 last year on the sidelines of the Brics summit, when Modi reassured Hasina that Bangladesh and India will remain together for the sake of development. Modi visited Bangladesh from June 6 to 7, 2015 and issued a joint declaration with Hasina aimed at launching a new beginning – “Notun Projonmo - Nayi Disha.”
