Olympic Day 2026 observed to mark IOC founding anniversary

Olympic Day 2026 was observed across Bangladesh on Saturday to mark the founding anniversary of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), with the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA), supported by the Bangladesh Army, organizing a colourful rally in the capital.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by the President of the Bangladesh Olympic Association and Chief of Army Staff, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, as the chief guest.

In his address, the Army Chief emphasized the importance of spreading the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect throughout society. He also encouraged everyone to engage in regular physical exercise and sports to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.

Held under the theme "You Can Do This, Let's Move," the rally aimed to inspire athletes and people from all walks of life to participate in physical exercise and sporting activities.

Alongside the central program in Dhaka, rallies and various events were also organized in the country's seven other divisional cities to mark Olympic Day.

The central rally in Dhaka began at 7am from the Bangladesh Army Stadium, proceeded along Airport Road, circled the Staff Road level crossing, and concluded at the Bangladesh Army Stadium.

Following the rally, an impressive sports demonstration was held, after which the Army Chief distributed certificates among the participants.

More than 1,500 people took part in the rally, including national-level athletes, coaches, sports organizers, Olympians, officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council, senior representatives of military and civilian institutions, students from various educational institutions, sports enthusiasts, and members of the media.
