BUP inter varsity debate competition concludes with prize giving ceremony

The final round and prize-giving ceremony of the Abul Khair Group Presents BUP IV 2026 Debate Competition, organized by BUP Debate Club in association with Presidency University, was held on May 23, 2026, at the Bijoy Auditorium of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).

The competition was organized under the supervision of the Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. It featured two phases — British Parliamentary Debate (Bangla) and British Parliamentary Debate (English) — with 128 participants from 64 teams representing 40 universities.

In the final round of the Bangla segment, BUP A from Bangladesh University of Professionals defended its championship title by defeating Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Dhaka University (IBA DU Z), Jahangirnagar University (JUDO Sangshaptak) and International Standard University (ISU 101).

In the English segment, the final round of the British Parliamentary Debate was held on October 23, 2026, where IBA DU NA from Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of Dhaka University emerged champion. Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP B), North South University (NSU AS) and Brac University (Brac Pitt) were the finalists.

Farim Ahsan from Jahangir Nagar University and Ahnaf Sharar from IBA DU won the title of Debater of the Tournament in the Bangla segment. In the English segment, Shadman Khan Chowdhury and Areez Binte Hossain, both from North South University, won the same title.

In the closing and prize-giving ceremony, Brigadier General Mohammad Shahiduzzaman Khan, ndc, afwc, psc, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, graced the chair as chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners. Lecturer Meherin Ahmed Roza, moderator of BUP Debate Club, was also present.

Deans from different faculties, chairmen of various departments, directors from different centres, officers, adjudicators, students, invited guests and journalists attended the ceremony. Mr Saad Jashim, head of HR of Abul Khair Group, and Professor Dr Anwarul Kabir, principal advisor of Abul Khair Group, joined as special guests from the sponsors.
