Joltaranga hosts cultural evening celebrating women’s dignity and rights

Cultural organization Joltaranga organised a special cultural evening titled “Shono Ahoban” on Friday in support of women’s dignity and equal rights.

The program was held at the Isfendiyar Zahid Hasan Auditorium of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in Dhaka at 6:30pm.

The event highlighted the role of women in society and paid tribute to their struggles for equality and recognition. Organizers said the program aimed to promote awareness of women’s rights and encourage a healthy socio-cultural environment through music and poetry.

Marking the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, the event opened with performances of his songs “Sobare Kori Ahoban” and “Sankocher Bihwalata Nijere Opoman.”

The program also featured songs and poems by Kazi Nazrul Islam, Salil Chowdhury and other prominent writers and composers.

Alongside Joltaranga’s regular performers, freedom fighter and reciter Dalia Ahmed and mountaineer Nishat Majumdar joined the event as guest artists. Dalia Ahmed recited Nazrul’s poem “Nari,” while Nishat Majumdar recited Tagore’s “Apamanit.”

The event also honoured Japao Murung, the first woman from the Mro community to gain admission to the University of Dhaka.

Joltaranga presented flowers and greetings to Dalia Ahmed, Nishat Majumdar and Japao Murung during the program.

The event was coordinated by Zakir Hossain Tapan and Tanvira Ashraf Shyama and was open to all.
