B-SCAN hosts voter education workshop for persons with disabilities

The Bangladesh Society for the Change and Advocacy Nexus (B-SCAN) on Sunday organised a day-long voter education workshop for persons with disabilities under the project titled “Rising with Rights: Voter Education for Persons with Disabilities (VEPD)”.

The training was held at the Apon Udyog Foundation’s training centre in Dhaka, supported by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).

A total of 20 participants with disabilities took part in the cascade-style session.

According to B-SCAN, the VEPD project — running since October 2025 — aims to ensure the voting rights of persons with disabilities, promote their political participation, and increase awareness about voting procedures.

The initiative is being implemented in Dhaka, Faridpur, and Dinajpur districts, with an estimated 6,000 persons with disabilities expected to be engaged in voter education activities throughout the project period.

B-SCAN Director Iftekhar Mahmud, Coordinator Mahfuzur Rahman Rakiv, Advocacy and Research Officer Upama Saha, and Program Officer Ruma Akter attended the workshop. The session was chaired by B-SCAN Executive Director Salma Mahbub.

The training focused on enhancing participants’ understanding of the voting process, accessibility within the electoral system, and developing leadership and advocacy skills.

B-SCAN and IFES officials expressed hope that the initiative will help persons with disabilities exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, confidently, and with dignity.
