The Election Commission (EC) has declared the nomination paper of BNP Secretary General and presidential candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir valid for the 23rd presidential election, scheduled for August 20.
BNP Standing Committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, and Whip Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu were present.
Earlier, around 11am, the EC declared the nomination paper of Oli Ahmed, the candidate of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance, valid.
The EC will formally announce the names of all valid candidates after completing the scrutiny. Candidates can withdraw their nominations by 4:00pm on August 18.
A total of three nomination papers have been submitted for the presidential election, one by the BNP and two by the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance.
