‘DMP commissioner’s remarks being selectively circulated on social media’

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has alleged that the selective clips of the DMP Commissioner’s remarks are being circulated on social media to spread misinformation.

In a press release issued on Friday, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy police commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of DMP, clarified the context of the Commissioner’s remarks.

According to the release, DMP commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali cast his vote at a school in the capital on Thursday. Speaking to journalists after voting, he described the election environment as “wonderful.”

He also recalled a personal experience from the 2018 election, saying that when he had come to cast his vote at the same center, he was informed that his vote had already been cast.

The DMP emphasized that this statement, reflecting the commissioner’s past experience and regret over not being able to exercise his voting right, has been selectively clipped and misrepresented on social media to create misinformation.

The press release added that the DMP is working to identify those responsible for spreading such content and bring them to justice. The public was urged to refrain from being misled by these distorted clips.
