Lutfozzaman Babar wins in Netrokona-4

BNP-nominated candidate and former state minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar has won in Netrokona-4 (Madan–Mohanganj–Khaliajuri) constituency in the unofficial results by a huge margin, according to BNP Media Cell on Thursday

According to information received from center-based polling agents after the announcement of results on Thursday evening, Babar, contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol, secured 160,351 votes. His nearest rival, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-nominated candidate Al Helal Talukder, who contested with the “Dari Palla” symbol, received 39,309 votes.

Babar led his closest competitor by 121,042 votes and was unofficially declared elected.

In his immediate reaction, Babar said: “This victory is the victory of the people. I will continue to work for the development of the area, strengthening infrastructure, and fulfilling the expectations of the people.”

He also expressed gratitude to voters and all concerned for completing the election peacefully.

Following the announcement of the results, widespread enthusiasm was observed among BNP leaders and activists in Madan, Mohanganj and Khaliajuri. Party supporters brought out victory processions and distributed sweets at different places.

The final result, however, will be confirmed after the official announcement by the Election Commission.

Other candidates in the constituency included Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Mokhlesur Rahman, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB)-nominated Joli Talukder and Bangladesh Revolutionary Workers Party candidate Champa Rani Sarkar.
