DMP commissioner hails perfect voting environment

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali on Thursday said voting was taking place in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere at polling centers across the capital, urging citizens not to pay heed to rumors surrounding the election.

He made the remarks after casting his vote at the Mohammadpur Preparatory School and College polling centre on Thursday.

“People are casting their votes. There are no problems anywhere,” the DMP Commissioner said. “After 17 years, citizens are delighted to exercise their voting rights. I hope voting and vote counting will be completed peacefully throughout the day.”

Addressing speculation about the election, he added, “For the past six months, we have been hearing that the election would not take place. Today, you have seen with your own eyes that voting is being conducted smoothly. No reports of violence have been received. The main rival parties will also accept the results.”
