The Election Commission (EC) has introduced a major change in the process of issuing accreditation cards for journalists and observers ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the upcoming referendum.
For the first time, applying for journalist and observer cards — along with vehicle stickers — must be done exclusively through the EC’s online system. All applications are to be submitted via the designated website: pr.ecs.gov.bd.
Online registration
Applicants must register online by providing their National Identity Card (NID) number, email address, mobile number, and a password. An OTP (one-time password) will be sent to the mobile number for verification, completing the registration process.
Application process
After registering, applicants can log in using their mobile number and password to apply for an accreditation card.
Local journalists at district and upazila levels must provide current location details — including division, district, constituency, and upazila or police station — before entering personal information.
Applicants must submit:
- Personal information: Name, NID number, date of birth, and gender.
- Media organization details: Name, office address, email, phone number, and registration number. Supporting documents such as the media registration certificate and the latest publication copy must be uploaded where applicable.
- Journalist list: A file containing the list of journalists approved by the media organization, along with the applicant’s serial number on that list.
Vehicle sticker
Applicants requiring a vehicle sticker must indicate “Yes” or “No.” If “Yes,” relevant vehicle registration documents must be uploaded.
Final submission
Scanned copies of office ID card, issue and expiry dates, photograph, signature, and NID card must be uploaded in designated fields. Once completed, clicking “Submit” confirms that the application has been successfully submitted.
Issuance of accreditation card
Upon verification, the EC will issue a QR code–enabled accreditation card in PDF format. Journalists must print the card and carry it as official authorization while covering election events.
