Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed said participation in the February 12 referendum is crucial, as a “Yes” vote would enable reforms and reflect public hopes.
He said: “Ordinary people in villages are not unaware of the referendum. The government is conducting extensive publicity and awareness campaigns. People themselves are also campaigning in favour of ‘Yes’.”
Dr Salehuddin made the remarks on Friday evening while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a "Vote Vehicle" in front of the Sirajganj Deputy Commissioner’s Office, launched as part of the campaign in favour of the referendum.
He said past governments reformed unilaterally, while a “Yes” vote in the referendum would ensure people’s participation and reflect public hopes.
He said the election will be historic, watched worldwide, and urged voters to support reforms by voting “Yes” in the referendum.
Earlier, the finance adviser, who also oversees the Ministry of Science and Technology, inaugurated the "Vote Vehicle". As part of the campaign in favor of the "Yes" vote, the decorated vehicle will tour various roads and alleys across the district every day.
The inauguration ceremony was chaired by Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr ANM Bazlur Rashid.
