The Election Commission (EC) accepted 53 candidates’ appeals and rejected 17 on the fourth day of hearings against returning officers’ decisions on nomination papers for the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The hearings were held at the EC auditorium in Agargaon and presided over by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, with other commissioners present. The appeals were heard from 10am to 4pm, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said.
So far, 645 appeal applications have been filed, challenging the rejection of 723 nomination papers by January 4. The EC began hearings on January 5, and they will continue until January 18. Appeals are being heard in batches of 70 per day.
According to the revised election schedule, candidates may withdraw by January 20. The final list of candidates and allocation of election symbols will be published on January 21. Campaigning will run from January 22 to 7:30am on February 10, with voting scheduled on February 12 from 7:30am to 4:30pm.
