Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Thursday urged election officials to perform their duties with transparency, neutrality, and firmness, warning that any negligence would not be tolerated.
Addressing candidates, he stressed adherence to the code of conduct and called for a peaceful and festive election. “Your aim should be to gain voters’ trust and confidence by maintaining peaceful coexistence and mutual respect,” he said.
The CEC described the upcoming election as historic, noting that the national parliamentary election and a referendum will be held on the same day for the first time. He said the event provides an opportunity for state and democratic institutions to demonstrate capability and restore credibility.
He also highlighted improvements to the postal voting system, allowing expatriate Bangladeshis, voters under legal guardianship, and government employees working outside their constituencies to vote for the first time.
