Jamaat mobilizes nationwide protest for electoral reform

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a mass rally on Friday, followed by the submission of memorandums to all deputy commissioners across the country on Sunday, as part of its campaign to press home a five-point demand ahead of the national election.

To ensure the success of the program, the party’s Secretary General Professor Golam Parwar has urged leaders and activists to participate actively.

He reiterated the party’s longstanding call for a free, fair, neutral, and fear-free electoral environment, warning that continued government inaction would compel the public to intensify their movement in pursuit of legitimate rights.

Jamaat’s five-point demand includes holding the national election in February based on the framework agreed upon in July.

The party is also advocating for the introduction of a Proportional Representation (PR) system in both houses of parliament to ensure broader political inclusivity.

Additionally, Jamaat is demanding a level playing field for all political parties to conduct a free, fair, and acceptable election.

It has called for visible efforts to prosecute those responsible for oppression, mass killings, and corruption under what it describes as a fascist regime.

The party also seeks a ban on the activities of the Awami League regime’s allies, specifically naming the Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance, which it accuses of supporting autocratic governance.
