AB Party leaders on Sunday claimed that the people have responded to the party’s call for a voluntary lockdown and not cast votes on election day.
The streets and polling centres were empty, they said at a media briefing at the party office.
AB Party Convener AFM Solaiman Chowdhury claimed there were government officials and Awami League “cadres” at polling stations. “The people have rejected this election.”
Maj (retd) Abdul Wahab Minar, joint convener of the party, said: "Today is a black day. We appealed to the countrymen not to participate in this farce of an election"

Advocate Tajul Islam, another joint convener, said: “The state of the nation is akin to when air raid sirens go off, and people stay inside their homes: total quiet and empty streets.”
Member Secretary Mojibur Rahman Monju criticized that the election was held on the day when Felani Khatun was killed 13 years ago.
“In response to our appeal, the people abstained from voting in this farcical election. We saw that even a large number of Awami League men were not present at polling centres today. We once saw a group of monkeys dancing,” he added.
