National polls: 1,488 Chittagong polling centres marked as risky

As many as 1,488 polling centres have been identified as risky out of a total of 2,023 in Chittagong.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) and Chittagong District Police marked 72% of polling centres as risky. 

CMP marked 446 centres out of 660 as risky under its jurisdiction, while the district police identified 1,042 out of 1,363 as risky in 16 upazilas.

According to Chittagong regional election office sources, two armed policemen will be deployed in general polling stations of the district and three armed policemen will be deployed in risky centres. Apart from this, 10 Ansar and VDP members and one or two village policemen will be deployed in each centre.

On the other hand, three armed policemen will be deployed in general polling stations in the city, four armed policemen in risky centres and 10 members of Ansar and VDP in each centre.

A mobile patrol team of CMP will be deployed for every 10 centres in the Chittagong metropolitan area. 

There will be 42 striking forces for all polling stations in the city. An additional 15 mobile striking forces will be deployed on January 6 and 7. 

Thirty-five platoons of BGB will be deployed in six constituencies of the city. Apart from this, seven platoons will be stationed as BGB reserve forces.

Besides, 13 teams of Ansar will be deployed as a striking force in the constituencies under the upazilas.

CMP Commissioner Krishna Pad Roy said: “Altogether 446 centres have been identified as dangerous in six constituencies of the city. High-risk centres will have four policemen, and centres with low risk will have three policemen and 15 Ansar members. Besides, there will be striking forces in mobile teams, police stations and control rooms." 

Three layers of security have been arranged for the election. 

In 16 constituencies of Chittagong, the total number of voters is 6,307,995; the number of male voters is 3,283,255 and the number of female voters is 3,024,684.

Besides, the number of transgender voters is 56.

Chittagong Regional Election Officer Md Yunus Ali said: "Our preparation is almost final. Electoral equipment has already reached most of the constituencies.”
