Former Gazipur mayor Jahangir Alam has criticized Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq for allegedly seeking his party's support to secure victory in the upcoming election.
Jahangir said this during an election campaign in Gazipur on Wednesday.
He claimed Mozzamel Huq went to the prime minister to secure victory in the upcoming election and that the prime minister told him: “I have seen the service you (Mozammel) provided to the people for the past 15 years; let the people decide now.”
The former Gazipur mayor further alleged Moazammel then approached the party's general secretary and asked him to stop the independent candidate and Jahangir for a bit. The general secretary reportedly replied: “If you (Mozammel) are a minister and are afraid of the independent candidate, then why did you stand for election?”
Jahangir Alam added: "AKM Mozammel Huq served as an MP for five years and as a minister for 10 years in Kaliakoir. It's very sad that he, whom we appointed as minister and sent to Parliament, and entrusted to lead the people, ended up exploiting them for 15 years under the guise of governance."
Regarding Jahangir’s comments, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq said to journalists: "We did not go anywhere to stop him. I do not want to talk about him. Whatever comes to his mouth, he says."
