The Election Commission has withdrawn the officers-in-charge (OCs) of Shailkupa and Harinakundu police stations of Jhenaidah district over their negligence in performing their duties.
The OCs of these two police stations have been withdrawn as the matter of negligence has been proved in the context of the incident of counter-attacks between supporters of the two rival candidates centring the election campaign.
Election Commission Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath told reporters this information at Agargaon Nirbachan Bhabn on Saturday afternoon.
The commission has taken this action after receiving the investigation reports from the deputy commissioner (DC) and the superintendent of police (SP) of the Jhenaidah district.
In response to a question from the journalists, EC’s additional secretary said: “Any complaint that comes to the Election Commission, the evidence of the complaint will be sent to the concerned returning officer and SP through any means, action will be taken according to their investigation reports."
He said that OCs are not careless about performing their duties everywhere. A couple of isolated incidents are happening and actions are being taken there as well.
