The election inquiry committee of the Election Commission has issued a show-cause notice to former member of parliament Talukdar Towhid Jung Murad, who is contesting the upcoming election as an independent candidate in the Dhaka-19 constituency in Savar, for violating the electoral code of conduct.
Savar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ferdous Wahid confirmed the information on Friday.
According to the notice, on Tuesday, independent candidate Murad held a rally by blocking the Dhaka-Aricha highway in the Shimultala area in Savar municipality, disrupting traffic and public movement.
The committee received a report on this matter from the vigilance and observation team of that constituency through the assistant returning officer.
The notice requires Murad to be present at the office of the Senior Assistant Judge Zakir Hossain, chairman of the committee for Dhaka-19, at 10am on December 26.
He needs to submit a written explanation as to why a report on his violation of the regulations should not be sent to the Election Commission and why he should not face punitive action.
