Tuku issued show-cause notice for violating electoral code of conduct

The election inquiry committee formed by the Election Commission has issued a show-cause letter to the Awami League’s Pabna-1 candidate, Shamsul Hoque Tuku, for violating the electoral code of conduct by hosting an election meeting with teachers from different institutions.

District and Sessions Judge Ikramul Kabir, head of the committee, confirmed the matter on Wednesday afternoon.

The notice says Tuku hosted an election meeting at his home on December 14 with teachers of various local government and private educational institutions. There he sought votes for the Awami League, asking the teachers to ensure votes for his party through students, violating the electoral code of conduct.

The committee gave Tuku two working days to explain his action.

Earlier on Monday, independent candidate Prof Abu Sayeed, a former state minister for information from the Awami League, complained to the committee as well as the local returning officer about the incident.
