Awami League’s Shammi Ahmed out of election race after losing appeal

The chamber judge of the Appellate Division has upheld a High Court order that rejected a writ petition filed by Barisal-4 constituency Awami League candidate Shammi Ahmed challenging the cancellation of her candidature.

The Appellate Division led by Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order on Tuesday.

As a result of the order, Shammi Ahmed is not eligible to run in the upcoming elections.

On December 15, Awami League aspirant Shammi Ahmed crashed out of the upcoming election race as the Election Commission turned down her appeal against the cancellation of her candidacy by the returning officer.

The Election Commission turned down the two petitions lodged by Shammi Ahmed following hearings at the Election Commission headquarters in Dhaka.

The national polls is scheduled to be held on January 7.
