Jatiya Party (JaPa) will participate in the upcoming national polls, Mujibul Haque Chunnu, general secretary of the party has said.
He made the announcement on Sunday, mentioning that the polls environment is satisfactory.
JaPa will contest in 283 seats, and will not boycott the election, he added.
“An agreement has been reached in some seats," Chunnu added.
He further said that the details of the agreed-upon seats will be disclosed later, emphasizing that they are proceeding with the election despite any challenges.
"We are participating in the election independently, there is no pressure,” he added.
The Awami League has offered 26 seats to the JaPa on Sunday. Apart from that, six seats were offered to the 14-Party Alliance.
The Election Commission (EC) fixed Sunday as the deadline to withdraw nomination papers and distribution of electoral symbols among finalized candidates on December 18.
The returning officers will allot the symbols on December 18. The candidates will then go on the campaign, which will continue till 8am on January 5.
The national polls will be held on January 7.
The ruling has withdrawn its party candidates in favour of the Jatiya Party in the 26 seats. Jatiya Party will now contest with its own party symbol, which is plough.
