The Tarikat Federation, which previously represented the Chittagong-2 constituency as a Grand Alliance partner, has not been allocated a seat this time, a decision that Tarikat Federation Chairman Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandari finds hard to believe.
"I can not believe that there is no seat allocation for us,” he said during a press conference at the central office of Tarikat Federation in Dhanmondi on Friday.
He said: “At the December 4 meeting at Ganabhaban with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, our seat allocation was discussed. During that meeting, it was mentioned that we would receive about five or six seats. We are confident that we are included in this allocation. I am certain that a seat has been reserved for us, as I was informed at that meeting.”
“On that day, Obaidul Quader announced the names of a few people,” he said.
For the Chittagong-2 constituency, Awami League has nominated Khadizatul Anwar, daughter of former MP Rafiqul Anwar. In the same race, newly registered Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP) Chairman Sayed Saifuddin Ahmed Al Hasani Maizbhandari and Bangladesh Islami Front Chairman Maulana MA Matin are also candidates.
Notably, Nazibul Bashar and Saifuddin are uncle and nephew.
Regarding BSP's nomination for the Chittagong-2 constituency, Nazibul Bashar said: "If someone gets nominated after registering three months ago, then where will the position of politics be now? The BSP is not in the coalition. What is their political background? Suddenly someone comes, conducts two or four programs, and then says they are included. This is an ominous sign for the country's future politics."
He added: "The current political situation is not good. BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami is out of politics. They are carrying out movements with terrorism. The world is quiet about the election. Silence is not a good sign.”
In the 11th parliamentary election, the Awami League had allocated 16 seats to its alliance partners.
The ruling Awami League’s partners in the 14-party alliance will participate in the upcoming general election with the party’s electoral symbol, boat. The ruling party has decided to share seven constituencies with the partners.
According to sources, the Awami League will give away Barisal-3, Rajshahi-2 and Satkhira-1 constituencies for Workers Party of Bangladesh, Kushtia-2, Lakshmipur-4 and Bogra-4 for Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSoD), and Pirojpur-2 for Jatiya Party (Manju).
